Pregnancy surprises

There are several things that surprise me with being pregnant. For example how many undies you can go through in a day, the surprises you can get when you sneeze and just how fascinating the baby’s development is.

But it also surprises me when I go to sit down at the dinner table or my desk and I try to pull my chair in and my bump gets in the way. It surprises me every day...It makes me a bit pleased I think.

I have always been fairly small I guess (so people tell me) and have always been able to squeeze through small gaps by holding in my tummy if necessary. When I try pulling my tummy in now it just doesn’t work and it still surprise me when I think I can get through a space but get stuck. It happens quite a bit actually. I forget that I am pregnant sometimes.

And when I raise my foot to put my shoes on, I consistently forget that I have a tummy and knee myself. I am not alone with that, my friend does that too.

Most of all it surprises me how bizarre it feels when the baby kicks. I still haven’t got over the thrill and I love the feeling! Sometimes it looks like when the alien comes out of the actor’s stomach in the first Alien movie, well except it doesn’t come out of course.

At night I find it hard to sleep because the baby kicks so much and I just want to lie there and feel it and play with it. We have found a tickling game which makes the baby respond. I’m not sure if that is good and hope we don’t poke the baby.

Several pregnancy books and websites say that the baby should slow down now due to lack of space but my baby is as energetic as ever. I really think I am expecting a Duracell bunny. It amazes me the speed it can kick/hit. It must have one of those speed balls it is practising on in there.

What does this mean? I am expecting a Duracell bunny or Mohammed Ali, or a very small child who can still run around in there. My obstetrician assures me that it is growing well. I am a bit concerned about the size as I am not as big as other mothers-to-be in the same week, and never have. But I think I am growing now.

Saying that, I noticed this morning I have lost 1 kg and have decided that I need to eat more. I have been really trying but I get full really quickly. I think that is quite normal. My desk is now full with fruit and nuts. That should do it I think.

Until tomorrow, have fun!

Christina
